A petition by a group of Tiv natives from Benue State in the diaspora which generated dissension last week has been accepted by the House of Representatives.
The lawmakers received the application at Tuesday’s plenary held in the lower chamber of the National Assembly located at Abuja.
It was brought forth by an association called 'Mzough U Tiv Amerika' in short form 'MUTA' on the rising insecurity in Taraba, Nasarawa, and Benue States.
A member of the House who represents Gwer East/ Gwer West Constituency of Benue, Mark Gbillah, presented the plea at the plenary moderator by the Speaker of the House of reps, Femi Gbajabiamila.
He explained that he was presenting the plea on behalf of the association because Tiv natives of the affected states had been fired from their ancestral lands and territories.
“Without misunderstanding, please go ahead and lay your petition and it will be given proper attention,” Gbajabiamila told the lawmaker before he presented the plea.
Gbillah brought back the petition to the house of reps two weeks after the move was rejected by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Idris Wase.
Wase, who moderated the plenary held on March 11 in the absence of the speaker, had Proclaimed that Nigerians in the diaspora have absolutely no right to send petitions to the House on issues happening in the Country.
He has, however, denied his actions despite the intriguing video proof.
The recent attack on Samuel Ortom, who is the Benue State Governor at his own farmland also formed part of issues talked about during Tuesday’s plenary.
Condemning the happening, the lawmakers described the attack on the governor as an indication of anarchy and full-scale lawlessness in Nigeria at Large.
They, however, praised President Buhari for instantaneously ordering an investigation into the incident and also asked the security agencies to ensure that those involved were brought to justice, to serve as a warning to others.
