Zlatan and Lukaku had a verbal dispute in Italian Quarter Finals on January 26.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) have confirmed they have opened an investigation into the clash between Inter's Romelu Lukaku and AC Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic during January's derby.
The pair were involved in an incredibly heated confrontation which had Lukaku pleading for a fight to settle his score, and both players eventually had to be separated as the tensions continued to boil over.
Both players were issued yellow cards for their roles in the incident, but the FIGC took to their official website to confirm the incident was being looked at to decide whether the punishment was severe enough.
"This morning, FIGC Attorney Giuseppe Chine opened an inquiry into the verbal dispute between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku in the Coppa Italia quarter-final between Inter and AC Milan on 26 January," a statement read.
"As part of this inquest, Chine has decided to summon referee Paolo Valeri, who will, in the next few hours, be called upon to give his statement regarding the sanctions that were handed out to both players during the game."
It is thought that one of the main topics of controversy was comments made by Ibrahimovic, who appeared to be caught telling Lukaku: "Go do your voodoo s**t, you little donkey."
That has brought around accusations of racism - something Ibrahimovic denied on social media soon after - but the uncomfortable nature of his comments has forced the FIGC to continue with proceedings.
The 'voodoo' comments are believed to refer to a claim from Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, who stated that Lukaku turned down the chance to remain with the Toffees in 2017 because of a voodoo message telling him to leave.
Both Ibrahimovic and Lukaku have been hit with one-match bans, although not specifically because of this incident. The former was shown a second yellow card later in the game and was sent off, while the yellow Lukaku received was his second in the competition and earned him an automatic suspension.
It means Lukaku will miss the first leg of the semi-final against Juventus, whereas Ibrahimovic will miss Milan's first game in the Coppa Italia next season.
