Morocco Forward Ziyech won his first goal since October to place the host ahead in the first half at Stamford Bridge. Emerson got off the bench to score the final goal that sealed a comfortable 3-0 aggregate victory over the Dull La Liga leaders. Adding Atletico's misery, Stefan Savic was sent off in the closing stage for elbowing Antonio Rudiger in the stomach.
While Chelsea were the superior side for a long time, Atletico can be justified claiming that they should have a penalty for the challenge of Cesar Azpilicueta in Yannick Carrasco when the score is still 0-0. That was the only main fear for Chelsea when they extended their unbeaten to 13 matches since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard who was fired in January.
Tuchel offers the most unbeaten early by Chelsea boss after passing Luiz Felipe Scolari. Revitalized by Tuchel, Chelsea only conceded two goals in a brief government and was above six consecutive clean sheets in all competitions. Leading Chelsea into the last eight for the first time in seven years was another feather in Tuchel's hat as German eyes returned to the Champions League final after his defeat with Paris Saint-Germain against Bayern Munich last season.
Chelsea, the Champions League winner for the only time in 2012, have been removed at the stage of the first knock on their last four appearances. But they have never seen in the danger of losing a 1-0 lead given to them by Overhead kick Olivier Giroud in the first leg in Bucharest.
Most importantly, Azpilicueta escaped without a punishment when the back-pass defender that was less looking allowed Carrasco to bite it in the penalty area. Azpilicueta responded with a panic pull that sent Carrasco to fall but the attraction of Atletico's penalty was controversial rejected by referee Daniele Orsato, with a strange var chose not to intervene.
Atletico Boss Diego Simeone was very angry and his anger only increased when Chelsea took advantage of their luck to lead in the 34th minute. Timo Werner signed from Bayer Leverkusen for a lot of confidentiality in the close, now only has two goals in the last 27 appearances for Chelsea. But Tuchel supports Werner to come well this week and the German forward paying the faith of his manager with a strong performance that is limited by the main contribution to the Ziyech opening.
Breaking at the speed after Werner blocked the Trippier Kieran Cross, Kai Havertz feeded his teammate on the left side. Werner accelerated far from the position of Atletico defense before cutting a bait truly weighted to Hakim Ziyech. Not marked 10 meters from the goal, Ziyech finished pushing the rapier of Chelsea with a clinical strike.
After struggling for most of their first season with the Blues, Havertz, Werner and Ziyech finally joined to show why Chelsea spent more than £150 million in their last year. Joao Felix tried to drag Atletico back to the tie, but Edouard Mendy was the same as the shot which was deflected. Pace Werner caused Atletico's problem and he ran clearly for a low push saved by Jan Oblak in his close post.
Oblak made a better stop when he stretched to tip the efforts to dip Ziyech from the edge of the area. When Mendey denied Felix, Chelsea could see the finish line and frustration of Savic boiled in the 81st minute because he was dismissed because of the elbow who did not need to draw a decrease in the theater from Rudiger.
